Report from Bishampton Gardening Club

As requested by The Clerk to your Council, I give below a brief summary of the activities of the above Club for the past twelve months:-

The Club was conceived immediately following a "Gardeners Question Time" in The Villages Hall, and held it's first formal meeting on March 20th. The Speaker was Frank Hardy (ex Vice Principle of Pershore College) who spoke on the subject of "Your Garden in April". During the course of the subsequent year a further five such talks have been organized on a broad variety of subjects, all well received. The Speakers all proved to be both informative and entertaining.

The first " Annual Summer Show" was held on 31st August last, and appeared to be very successful with in excess of 300 entries. In July a visit to the Gardens of Conderton Manor was supported by between 30 and 40 members and proved both interesting and inspiring.

The first Annual Club Dinner was held on December 4th attracting over 70 persons. Outside catering was provided by "The Boot" at Flyford, and the cost of the meal was lightly subsidized from Club funds. Entertainment was provided by the Barnstormers and the whole evening proved very enjoyable to all those attending.

No meetings were held during the months of January and February, but March involved a Talk on the subject of "Vegetables and Garden Pests". This was followed in early April by a very well supported "Spring Show" which attracted 192 exhibits- a much higher number than similar Shows organized by neighbouring Villages.

A similar range of activities is arranged for the forthcoming year, and with rrPmbership now standing at 68 the Club is currently thriving. In addition, the Club is anxious 10 raise it's profile within the village by commencing environmental enhancement activities on a small scale.
