ANNUAL PARISH MEETINGS
Bishampton and Throckmorton Annual Parish Meetings were held in April and a big thanks to all those who attended; 28 at Bishampton and 22 at Throckmorton. Also thanks to Liz Tucker, County Councillor and Malcolm Argyle, District Councillor plus Steve Booth, Estates Manager from Qinetiq who attended both meetings.

Steve gave an outline of the role Qinetiq, their current position and future aspirations plus frank views on their continued use of the airfield. A lively question and answer session took place at each meeting.

LOCAL ROADS
Amongst other issues raised was the continued deterioration of the road surfaces and verges in the area, and whilst this is not under Parish Council control, it will be making representation and provoking debate on the issue. By the time this is published, the Parish Council will have written to our MP, Peter Luff and will have met with Wychavon Council officials. The main areas of concern (so far) are the road across the airfield and Hill Furze Road. The Hot Topics questionnaire, part of the Parish Plan, picked up some comments about the conditions of the lanes in the area. However, we still need your complaints to bolster the case for further action. Believe it or not, more money is going into roads in Wychavon, but we need to shout to get our share.

VILLAGE CAR PARKING
The problems of parked cars in the centre of Bishampton are growing. The Parish Council would like to discourage long term parking in the lay-by, particularly in front of the shop during shop opening hours. The reasons should be pretty obvious in that patrons of the shop are finding it difficult to park and leaving vehicles dangerously parked plus delivery vehicle are creating an even bigger hazard. It is not difficult to see that if this continues we can expect a pretty unpleasant accident on the crossroads and if that is caused by a dangerously parked vehicle ...

Allied to this is the fact that parking on pavements is on the increase in some cases to the extent that pedestrians are having to use the road. This is clearly unacceptable so would those offending please desist before more direction action has to be applied.

DOG BINS
We have one dog bin near the Villages Hall and it is pleasing to note that people make use of it but there is a demand for others. This will be on the agenda at the PC meeting on June 7th but we would be happy to receive suggestions as to locations where we could put up to two more bins. Contact either the Clerk to the Parish or any member of the Parish Council.

THROCKMORTON PARISH ROOM
Designs have been drawn up for the new Parish Room at Throckmorton. The Parish Council has decided that the ‘ownership’ and control of the new building should be in the hands of the people of Throckmorton. Initially, a steering group will be set up to manage the purchase of the land and the construction of the room. A democratically accountable trust will then be created to maintain and manage the Parish Room.
