BISHAMPTON AND THROCKMORTON PARISH COUNCIL

The parish council met on Monday (March 5th) when it considered the issue of the mobile phone base station in the village and would like to issue the following statement:

The Parish Council has been in discussion and correspondence with residents and all interested parties regarding the mobile phone base station issue, since concerns were first raised at the beginning of February.

Councillors heard the views of the Bishampton Against the Mast committee members who attended the council meeting this week.

The council discussed the issue and considered requests from the action group for the council’s further support.

Whilst both T-Mobile and the landowner are acting within the law and their rights, the council intends to write to the Government to raise the issue in the context of the upset and disagreement that has arisen as a result of a law that allows antennae to be erected without planning permission or local consultation.

The council has noted T-Mobile’s representations but recognises that regardless of any technical argument, there is genuine fear amongst very many residents for their well-being, which members are keen to represent.

With this in mind, the council decided to try to bring about a constructive meeting between councillors, T-Mobile, the landowner, and two representatives from the action group, at a neutral venue, where all parties could be given the opportunity to communicate and examine all options, in the hope a solution can be reached.

The clerk will write to all three parties this week and also to MP Peter Luff to request any help he can offer to the resolution of this issue.

The council has, from the moment concerns were raised - and will continue to - share all its information with parishioners and any other interested parties.

A report on the meeting and the council’s actions to date will be contained within the council minutes and a draft copy will be available as soon as they are completed.
